DeepSeek Harness Scheduled Task Plugin

Introduction

In using DeepSeek Harness (DSH), automated workflows are key to improving efficiency. Existing solutions often require manual triggering or rely on complex scripts. The dsh-tasks plugin solves this problem by using cron expressions. It pushes the capability of “scheduled prompt execution” down to the plugin layer, allowing users to manage AI workflows just like ordinary tasks.

What is it?

dsh-tasks is a DSH workflow plugin maintained by the user weibaohui. Its core function is to use cron expressions to execute prompts on a schedule, automatically creating and running a new agent session when the scheduled time arrives. Users can also manually run the task immediately at any time.

Core features

The plugin provides the following capabilities:
* Cron scheduled execution: Each task consists of a title, a prompt, and a cron expression, and a session is created automatically when the scheduled time arrives.
* Visual schedule picker: Provides quick templates (such as “9:00 every weekday”) or a step-by-step picker. After selection, it previews the next 5 execution times in real time to ensure the schedule is configured correctly.
* Manual immediate execution: Tasks in the list can be run with one click, without waiting for the cron trigger.
* Workspace binding and model selection: A task can be bound to a specific workspace (sessions inherit the directory), and you can also specify the execution model (by default it follows the global setting).
* Automatic session naming: Executed sessions are named “task title · time” for easy distinction in the sidebar.
* Management UI: Provides a full-screen management page that supports creating, editing, enabling/disabling, and deleting tasks.
* Execution records: Retains the latest 20 execution histories, supports expanding records for traceability, and successful records can be opened with one click to review the conversation.
* Notification push: Supports pushing notifications to IM when a task starts, completes, or fails (requires plugins such as dsh-im). Completion notifications can include the execution conclusion (the last 1000 characters).
* Do Not Disturb windows: Supports configuring start and end times, handles time windows that cross midnight, and automatically skips pushes within the configured window.

Installation and enablement

Install via the npm package:

dsh plugin --profile web add @weibaohui/dsh-tasks -w

After installation, restart the dsh web process for the changes to take effect.

Usage

  1. Open the Web UI, go to the Settings page, and click the Scheduled Tasks section on the left to enter the management panel.
  2. Click create a new task and fill in the following fields:
    - Title: The task name.
    - Prompt: The specific instructions to be executed by the AI.
    - cron expression: For example, 0 9 * * 1-5 means 9:00 every weekday.
    - Bind workspace (optional): Specify the directory used by the session.
  3. After saving, the task will run according to the cron schedule. On the list page, you can run it now, edit, disable, or delete it at any time.

Notifications and do not disturb

Task execution results can be pushed to IM channels, but you must install an IM delivery plugin first (such as dsh-im).
1. Configure at least one target in the IM delivery plugin.
2. Return to the bottom of the scheduled tasks settings page, enable notifications, and select the events (start/complete/fail).
3. Check “Include execution conclusion in completion notification”; the push will contain the final reply content from the agent.
4. Enable “Do Not Disturb” and set the start and end times to filter notifications within that period.

Use cases and notes

This plugin is suitable for scenarios that require regularly organizing tasks, generating daily reports, or accumulating knowledge.
Note: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. Before installing, it is recommended to review its source code and license (MIT) to ensure it complies with your usage policies.

Postscript

After the steps above, you have finished configuring scheduled tasks. Through cron expressions and visual tools, this plugin extends DSH’s Agent capabilities from “instant response” to “scheduled response,” making it a foundational component for building automated workflows.
