Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) has a plugin-based system that allows developers to extend functionality through plugins. In addition to conventional feature enhancements, visual customization is also part of the plugin ecosystem. Existing interface customization solutions are mostly CSS-based and relatively limited in form. The dsh-video-skin plugin introduces the concept of video backgrounds and startup animations. Without changing DSH’s core logic, it provides richer visual presentation for both the desktop client and the browser.
Plugin Overview¶
This plugin is maintained by Something11235 and is released under the MIT License. Its core value lies in a “zero-dependency” design: one silent video loops as the chat background, while another video with audio plays as the startup animation. Through configuration, users can adjust opacity and contrast to keep the video background from compromising the readability of the interface text.
Core Features¶
The plugin primarily provides the following capabilities:
- Chat background: A short video loops to cover the entire interface and is muted by default. The opacity of the interface layer can be adjusted in real time in the UI without restarting.
- Audio startup animation: An animation with audio plays at startup, then automatically cross-fades into the main interface after it ends. During playback, users can click the screen to skip it.
- Opacity control: A semi-transparent circular button is provided in the bottom-right corner. When opened, it contains two sliders (panel opacity and video mask) and supports three presets. After adjusting, refresh to apply the changes without restarting.
- Real-time contrast readout: The panel displays text contrast data for the current video frame to assist with adjustments.
- Theme adaptation: It supports automatic switching and configuration between dark and light themes.
Installation and Activation¶
To install the plugin, use DSH’s plugin management interface.
- Go to Settings → Plugins → Add Plugin.
- Paste the following command into the input box and confirm installation:
github:Something11235/dsh-video-skin#main
- You must completely quit and reopen DSH for the changes to take effect. In the desktop version (Electron), refreshing the page is not enough to complete the injection because the index injection table is a snapshot collected when the host starts.
Usage¶
After installation, you can use it as follows:
- Adjust opacity: A semi-transparent circular button appears in the bottom-right corner. Click it to open the panel. Drag the slider to adjust the mask opacity, or press the
Alt+Bshortcut to toggle the panel. - Skip startup animation: If you do not want to wait for the startup animation at launch, click the screen to skip it.
- Close the panel: Click outside the panel area, or press
Escto close it. - Browser-side volume: Browsers (dsh web) block autoplay with audio by default, so playback falls back to muted mode and a separate volume button is displayed. Click the volume button to enable sound.
Notes¶
- Configuration file path: The configuration file is saved at
<plugin>/video-skin.config.or%USERPROFILE%\.dsh\dsh-video-skin.. After modifying the file, refreshing the page makes changes take effect, except for the desktop version. - Layering limitation: The z-index of the opacity control panel is 900, which is lower than the kernel’s Modal overlay (1000), ensuring modal boxes can properly cover the control panel.
- Dependencies: The plugin is fully dependency-free. The build output does not contain external
importstatements, and it can be used directly via thegithub:installation path.
Summary¶
dsh-video-skin provides a no-code solution for adding video backgrounds and startup animations to DeepSeek Harness. By fine-tuning opacity and contrast, you can maintain visual appeal while keeping the interface readable. For more details and source code, refer to the GitHub repository.
