DeepSeek Harness Plugin: Detecting WSL and SSH Status

This plugin is an extension of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), designed to address the need for developers to frequently check the status of local WSL distributions and remote SSH machines. It probes hardware resources (CPU, memory, disk, GPU) and runtime environments (Docker, processes, systemd services), writes the results to an atomically updated JSON snapshot, and presents it in multiple ways.

Core Features

This plugin provides the following capabilities:

  • Probe scope: Supports probing local WSL distributions and remote SSH machines. Collected metrics include CPU, memory, disk, GPU, Docker, processes, and systemd services.
  • Presentation methods:
    • WinUI 3 desktop panel: Provides an always-on-top native window that displays the snapshot in real time.
    • Text tables: Use the /wsx ... session command to view aligned plain-text tables.
    • Structured data: Retrieve structured JSON data through the remote_* agent tools.
    • MCP server: Provides an MCP stdio server that can connect to any MCP client.
  • Security and dependencies:
    • Read-only by default: Only probing is performed by default; write operations are controlled by the allowMutations option.
    • Zero dependencies: No credentials are stored, and the system OpenSSH client is used; there are zero runtime npm dependencies, and it ships with a precompiled WinUI 3 panel.

Installation and Enablement

This is a standard DSH bundle. DSH must be restarted after installation for it to take effect.

dsh plugin --profile desktop add link:C:\path\to\dsh-remote-panel

Configuration and Usage

Configure config.targets in the profile’s cordis.patch.yml.

The example configuration includes a WSL distribution and an SSH remote host:

- id: dsh-remote-panel
  name: dsh-remote-panel
  config:
    targets:
      # WSL 目标
      - kind: wsl
        name: WSL Ubuntu 24.04
        distro: Ubuntu-24.04
        user: root
      # SSH 目标
      - kind: ssh
        name: lab-gpu-01
        host: 192.168.1.50
        user: ubuntu

After configuration, you can use the /wsx ... command to view information, or use the remote_* tools to retrieve JSON data. The plugin also provides Skills and an MCP stdio server, making it easier to integrate into automation workflows.

System Requirements and Limitations

  • Panel environment: The WinUI 3 panel requires Windows 10 1809 (build 17763) or newer.
  • Cross-platform: Non-Windows hosts can load the plugin; commands and tools are available, but the WinUI 3 floating window cannot be displayed.
  • Timeout settings: The default timeout for a cold WSL start is 60 seconds; if the distribution was recently shut down, waiting may take longer.

Ecosystem Context

The DSH philosophy is “everything is a plugin”. This plugin is maintained by the community, and the source code and license can be obtained from GitHub.
