DSH (DeepSeek Harness) adopts an “everything is a plugin” architecture. When managing and switching models from multiple providers locally, the default selector often cannot meet the need for fine-grained control. The dsh-model-navigator plugin aims to replace the default model selection entry point in the input box and, with enhanced search, classification, and status-management capabilities, solves problems such as scattered model lookup and cumbersome switching.
This is a model selector plugin designed for DeepSeek Harness Desktop and maintained by developer EventHorizonXT. It reuses the host’s existing provider and account configurations and, while preserving the original functionality, provides a more intuitive model navigation experience.
Core Features¶
- Cross-provider global search: Search for models instantly across all configured providers, with support for displaying actual model IDs, making it easier to distinguish models with the same name or different versions.
- Favorites and recently used: Supports pinning frequently used models and automatically records recently used models. Both lists support expansion and interaction, and submenus automatically adjust their direction when window space is insufficient.
- Model family navigation: Groups and displays models by model family, replacing lengthy flat lists and making browsing and locating models more intuitive.
- Thinking intensity selection: Directly reads and switches the thinking intensity levels provided by the host, completing level configuration while selecting a model.
- Zero-migration configuration: Reuses the host’s model catalog and session
currentstate, eliminating the need to reconfigure providers or accounts. - One-click restore of the original selector: Supports turning off the replacement in settings, or disabling/uninstalling the plugin to switch back to the host’s original model selector at any time.
Installation and Enabling¶
Before installing, ensure that DeepSeek Harness Desktop is on 0.2.0-rc.2 or a compatible version, and keep the official model selection plugin enabled (it provides the underlying shared catalog service and the /model command).
It is recommended to install via the package:
- Go to Releases and download the package
dsh-model-navigator-0.3.2.tgzto your local machine. - Open DeepSeek Harness Desktop and go to Plugins → Add Plugin.
- Enter the local absolute path of the downloaded file in the package name or address field, then confirm to add and enable it.
Typical Usage¶
- Quick locating: Search for models instantly across all configured providers and quickly find the target model ID.
- Frequently used model management: Pin frequently used models; the system automatically records recently used models, reducing lookup time.
- Structured browsing: Use the model family grouping feature to quickly browse the model series of a specific provider.
- Fine-grained control: Adjust the thinking intensity level directly while switching models.
Use Cases and Notes¶
This plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. Before installing, review the source code and license (MIT License).
- Dependency requirement: The official model selection plugin must remain enabled; otherwise, the plugin cannot access the shared catalog service.
- Known limitation: Codex-specific Speed and Verbosity controls are not implemented yet.
Summary¶
dsh-model-navigator provides DSH users with a more efficient model selection solution. Through integrated global search, family navigation, and thinking intensity control, it reduces the cognitive burden when switching among multiple providers.
