dsh-wsl-kit: A Cross-System Toolkit for DeepSeek Harness in WSL

Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture, and all new features are introduced through plugins. When a workflow needs to use both the Windows GUI, file system, and network environment, as well as WSL’s native Linux capabilities (such as containers and build environments), deploying directly in a single environment creates compatibility challenges. dsh-wsl-kit is a meta-repo designed to address this issue. It keeps the DSH agent inside WSL while providing a chat interface in the Windows browser and handling cross-OS path access, clipboard operations, file opening, and network requests.

What It Is

This is a meta-repo containing documentation, installation scripts, and cordis.patch.yml. It does not include the plugin runtime itself.

The install.sh script is responsible for loading the Daily, GitHub, LLM, and Full plugin suites into DSH’s web configuration. The chat interface runs in a Windows browser, while the agent core and toolchain run inside WSL. In addition, the repository includes linking scripts for a set of Linux-native capability plugins (such as inference, media processing, and read-only DevOps tools), as well as optional plugins such as IM, Obsidian, and Jev.

Core Features

This suite primarily provides the following capabilities:

  • Cross-OS operation support: Through the Daily suite, the agent can perform cross-OS operations, including path mapping, reading from and writing to the clipboard, invoking the default browser, opening files, making network requests, and launching processes.
  • Decoupled architecture: The Windows side provides only the UI and interaction layer, and the agent core is fully isolated from the tool execution environment (WSL), ensuring that native Linux tools (such as tmux, git, and docker) can be invoked directly.
  • Optional plugin ecosystem:
    • IM plugin: Supports integration with instant messaging tools such as Feishu, WeCom, DingTalk, QQ, Slack, Discord, and Telegram.
    • Obsidian plugin: Enables bidirectional interaction between the WSL agent and Windows NTFS repositories.
    • Jev plugin: Provides system-level question-answering capabilities.
  • Linux-native capabilities: By linking Linux plugins, the agent can access local LLM inference services (Ollama, llama.cpp, and vLLM), media files, search, secrets management, and a read-only DevOps toolset.

Installation and Enablement

Before use, ensure that the DeepSeek Harness (dsh) version is 0.1.2 or higher.

  1. Install the main suite:
    Enter the WSL environment, clone the repository, and run the installation script, or use DSH plugin management commands.
    bash install.sh
Alternatively, if you only need specific plugins, you can use:
    dsh plugin add <plugin-repo-url>
  1. Link Linux-native capability plugins:
    The main suite installation script does not include Linux-native capability plugins. You need to manually run the linking script to load these plugins into DSH:
    bash scripts/link-linux-plugins.sh
  1. Install optional plugins:
    If you need features such as IM, Obsidian, or Jev, install the corresponding plugin repositories separately.

Architecture and Access

This suite runs in DSH’s web mode, with the UI and the agent running on two different ports.

  • Windows UI: Runs on port 3081. Access requires appending a one-time ?token= parameter (direct access to 3081 returns 401). Port 3080 is WSL-specific and is intended solely for internal agent use.
  • Plugin mapping differences: Three plugins have different npm published names from their repository names; pay attention during installation:
    • Repository dsh-wsl-tray -> npm package name dsh-wsl-tray-launcher
    • Repository dsh-wsl-expose -> npm package name dsh-wsl-portproxy
    • Repository dsh-wsl-workspace -> npm package name dsh-wsl-workspace-check

Notes

  • Package description and installation limitations: The package.json in the repository describes the configuration of the intended plugin set (31 plugins), but due to pnpm limitations (it does not allow github: dependencies nested inside github: dependencies), this bundle currently cannot be installed directly with pnpm add. You must use install.sh or dsh plugin add to install them one by one.
  • Runtime: This package does not include a runtime; ensure that DSH is properly installed on the system.
  • Permissions and security: Linux-native capability plugins (such as DevOps tools) typically run with the permissions of the WSL user. Be mindful of permission configuration when using them.
