qin-smart/dsh-quote-to-chat: Selection Quote Toolbar in DSH Web

Preface

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture that allows users to extend its functionality. When chatting in DSH Web, it is often necessary to follow up on or quote a specific part of a response. qin-smart/dsh-quote-to-chat solves this problem. It provides a floating toolbar for quoting directly, asking a side question, or copying text, without leaving the current interface.

Plugin Overview

  • Name: qin-smart/dsh-quote-to-chat
  • Maintainer: QIN-SMART
  • Category: Client
  • License: MIT

The core value of the plugin is: select a portion of text in a response in the DSH Web GUI → a floating toolbar appears → use the snippet as a quote block in the input draft, start a side thread for that content, or copy it directly.

Installation and Activation

Install it using the DSH CLI:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:QIN-SMART/dsh-quote-to-chat

After installation, refresh the browser page to apply the changes. There is no need to restart the DSH Web process.

Features

This plugin provides the following core features:

  1. Floating toolbar
When a portion of text is selected in the conversation body, an action bar automatically appears above the selection. The toolbar contains three options: Add to chat, Ask side question, Copy.
  2. Add to chat
Inserts the selected text as a quote block (Markdown format) into the current input draft.
  3. Ask side question
Opens a new conversation thread in the sidebar and automatically prefills the selected content as a quote in the input box, inheriting the context of the current session.
  4. Copy
Copies the selected original text directly to the clipboard.

Usage Example

The workflow is as follows:

  1. Select a portion of text in the conversation body.
  2. A toolbar appears above the selection with Add to chat | Ask side question | Copy.
  3. Click “Add to chat.” The draft area inserts > selected content followed by a blank line, and the cursor returns to the input box.
  4. Click “Ask side question.” The right sidebar expands into a side conversation thread, with the quote already prefilled in the input box. You can directly type your question and send it.
  5. Click “Copy.” The selected content is placed in the clipboard.

Dependencies and Limitations

  • Platform limitation: Web platform only.
  • Zero runtime dependencies: The plugin has no additional runtime dependencies.
  • Optional dependency: The “Ask side question” feature depends on the dsh-better-sidebar plugin. If that dependency is not installed, the “Ask side question” option is automatically hidden, with no impact on the other features.

Conclusion

This plugin provides efficient quoting and follow-up capabilities through simple text selection. It is suitable for scenarios where context needs to be frequently quoted in DSH Web for secondary development. The plugin source code is hosted on GitHub under the MIT license.
