Introduction¶
In the development workflow of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), developers usually define model behavior through the system prompt and capabilities through tools. However, when executing tasks, the model often lacks awareness of the current runtime environment. For example, it does not know whether it is running on Ubuntu or Windows, or what the CPU model or memory usage is. The dsh-where-am-i plugin solves this by injecting a device information block similar to neofetch.
Plugin Overview¶
This is a client plugin maintained by gausszhou. Its core function is to inject a device information block into every new session, including the hostname, operating system, kernel version, architecture, CPU model, memory usage, uptime, timezone, locale, terminal Shell, and Node version.
Core Features¶
- Injection timing: It is injected only once during the first step of the session, then persisted to the session history. It is not repeated in subsequent steps.
- No impact on existing sessions: After installation, existing sessions or system prompts remain byte-for-byte identical, avoiding KV cache invalidation.
- Subagent support: Subagent sessions are skipped by default (to avoid duplication).
includeSubagentscan be enabled via configuration. - Zero child processes: It uses native Node.js APIs to retrieve system information and does not rely on external commands (such as
unameorsw_vers).
Installation and Activation¶
Install it using the official command:
dsh plugin --profile web add "@gausszhou/dsh-where-am-i"
After installation, restart the dsh web service to apply the configuration:
systemctl --user restart dsh-web
Configuration¶
All configuration options are optional, and all fields are enabled by default. The configuration file is located at ~/.dsh/profiles/web/cordis.patch.yml.
# ~/.dsh/profiles/web/cordis.patch.yml
- id: where-am-i
config:
fields: [os, kernel, arch, cpu, memory, timezone]
includeSubagents: true
Notes¶
- Node.js version: Node.js >= 20.3 is required.
- Subagents disabled by default: Information is not injected into subagent sessions by default to avoid duplication. Manual enabling is required.
- No system prompt modification: The plugin works through the
agent/pre-steplistener mechanism and does not modify the shared system prompt, so it does not break the context of existing sessions.
Summary¶
By inserting a one-time device information snapshot into the session history, this plugin helps the model become better aware of the runtime environment and can be used without configuration. For more details, see the GitHub repository.
