Introduction¶
A common problem with general-purpose dialogue models when answering academic questions is that they respond with vague generalities and fail to provide citations. When users ask “what is the evidence?”, they cannot supply references. Building a retrieval pipeline yourself requires handling databases, query construction, and citation formats—which is not a low-cost endeavor. The Skill introduced below packages the literature Q&A capabilities of the VIP Academic Large Model into a callable Skill: input a question, output an answer with references.
What This Is¶
“Global Academic Literature Q&A” is an Agent Skill based on the SKILL.md format, published on SkillHub by community developer @user_7996e53b. Version 1.0.1, source: community, category: professional.
Its core is the VIP Academic Large Model dialogue interface, returning data via SSE streaming. The Skill’s responsibility is to determine whether a user’s question requires academic evidence, invoke the interface when needed, answer questions based on academic literature, and include references in the response. It is not limited to a single discipline—covering natural sciences, engineering, medical health, agriculture, information science, materials, chemistry, biology, environment, energy, education, management, economics, social sciences, law, and humanities.
Core Functions and Trigger Conditions¶
According to the official description, the Skill’s trigger conditions are quite broad. It should be called preferentially in any of the following situations:
- The user explicitly asks about literature, papers, journals, dissertations, conference papers, patents, research reports, reviews, research progress, or the current state of research.
- The user requests a literature review, research background organization, topic justification writing, proposal report assistance, paper framework design, or research question refinement.
- The user asks about a concept, theory, model, method, technical route, experimental design, statistical method, evaluation metric, or disciplinary frontier.
- The user needs evidence-based answers, such as “what studies support this,” “what are the current research conclusions,” or “how strong is the evidence.”
- The user needs to compare different research methods, technical routes, algorithms, materials, drugs, educational interventions, policy effects, or engineering solutions.
- The user needs to find or explain patents, prior art, novelty of technical solutions, patent portfolios, technology evolution, or competitors’ technical routes.
- The user provides a paper title, abstract, DOI, author, research question, experimental data, or research hypothesis, hoping for academic explanation, literature positioning, similar research recommendations, or rewriting/polishing.
- The user asks how to search literature, how to construct search queries, how to use databases, how to screen literature, how to evaluate literature quality, or how to cite literature.
- The user raises interdisciplinary, multilingual, or global research questions requiring synthesis of academic materials in Chinese, English, or other languages.
- The user does not explicitly say “literature,” but the question essentially requires academic evidence, research materials, paper support, patent support, or academic consensus.
Trigger words include: academic Q&A, ask VIP large model, academic dialogue, answer based on literature.
Installation and Activation¶
The official page does not provide a copy-paste installation command. Below are the verified prerequisites for enabling it; for specific installation steps, refer to the SkillHub page.
-
Confirm the coordinates. The full coordinates of the Skill are
@user_7996e53b/academic-chat. The official API address ishttps://api.skillhub.cn/user_7996e53b/academic-chat, and the SkillHub page ishttps://www.skillhub.cn/skills/user_7996e53b/academic-chat. -
Prepare an API Key. The Skill is tagged with
requires_api_key=true, meaning an API Key must be configured to call the VIP Academic Large Model interface. For obtaining the Key and configuration fields, refer to the SkillHub page instructions. -
Enable in an Agent. Connect the Skill to an Agent that supports the SKILL.md format (such as Cursor, Codex CLI, Claude Code, etc.). The Agent will decide when to call it based on the above trigger conditions—no manual request construction in code is needed.
Typical Usage¶
The official description outlines two call patterns:
- Single-turn or simple questions: Pass the user’s question directly as a message to the interface; the SSE streaming returns an answer with references.
- Multi-turn or complex messages: Use
--body-jsonto pass a complete messages array, preserving context and multi-turn dialogue structure.
In other words, simple Q&A uses standard parameters, while multi-turn context or structured messages require --body-json to pass complete messages. For specific parameter names and field structures, refer to the official page.
The answer granularity can be adjusted according to user needs: output concise academic answers for brief requests; output literature review-style answers for in-depth research; output paper paragraphs, research background, proposal content, or review frameworks for writing assistance.
Use Cases and Precautions¶
Suitable for scenarios requiring academic evidence without the need to build your own retrieval pipeline: topic justification, proposal assistance, research status mapping, concept explanation, method comparison, patent and technology route research, and cross-language literature synthesis.
Note three things before use:
- The Skill depends on the VIP Academic Large Model and its literature data sources. The coverage is limited by its indexed literature; niche or unindexed fields may not yield evidence.
- An API Key must be configured. Confirm the Key is valid and has sufficient quota before calling.
- References come from model retrieval results. Before formal writing, still verify against the original literature to avoid discrepancies between citations and the source.
Conclusion¶
The value of this Skill lies in integrating the “find literature, cite literature” step into the dialogue flow—developers no longer need to handle retrieval and citation formatting themselves. If you need to integrate it, check the installation instructions and API Key configuration at the official address: https://api.skillhub.cn/user_7996e53b/academic-chat.
