dsh-pet-desktop-linux: DSH Linux Desktop Pet Plugin

Introduction¶

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) supports plugin-based extension. In addition to web-based configuration and monitoring, keeping a visual status indicator on the desktop can help developers track the current session (such as idle, working, waiting, failed, or completed) more intuitively. The dsh-pet-desktop-linux plugin implements this functionality through a transparent window floating above the desktop.

Requirements¶

Before installing, make sure the following requirements are met:

Platform: Linux, with only X11 or XWayland supported (native Wayland sessions are not supported).
DSH: Any DSH version that includes the webServer and settings.section slots.
Node.js: Version >= 22.
System dependencies: Python 3, PyGObject, GTK3, GdkPixbuf, xdotool.
Additional dependency: @michengai/dsh-codex-pet (used only for reading image assets).

Installation¶

Install it through the DSH plugin manager.

dsh plugin --profile web add github:Wlaeg/dsh-pet-desktop-linux

After installation, refresh the DSH Web UI page for the Settings panel to register the plugin. When DSH starts, the pet window starts automatically (autostart defaults to true).

If you need to replace an installed plugin (for example, after modifying the source code), you must restart the DSH host process; simply refreshing the page is not enough.

Features¶

The plugin consists of three parts: the desktop program (desktop/pet.py), the host-side component (lib/index.js), and the browser-side component (client.js).

Window features:
- Borderless transparent GTK3 window that allows the desktop wallpaper to show through.
- The window stays on top (_NET_WM_STATE_ABOVE) and follows the workspace (_NET_WM_STATE_STICKY, implemented with xdotool).
Status animations:
- Switches animations based on the current DSH session state: idle, working, waiting for a response, failed, and pending review.
Interaction:
- Supports right-click menus.
- Provides a work status dialog.

Notes¶

Compatibility: Windows, macOS, and native Wayland are not supported.
Dependency checks: The Settings panel automatically detects GTK3, GdkPixbuf, and xdotool. If WebP images cannot be displayed, you may need to install webp-pixbuf-loader.
Permissions and security: The plugin runs with the permissions of the DSH process. Install it only from trusted sources and review the source code and license (MIT).
