dsh-system-monitor: Real-Time Hardware Monitoring in the DSH Sidebar

When running tasks in the DSH environment, it is necessary to monitor CPU, GPU, memory, and disk usage in real time. Traditional task managers only display instantaneous usage, making it difficult to identify the main resource consumers, estimate how long the load will persist, or predict when resources will be exhausted. This plugin provides a real-time monitoring panel in the DSH sidebar, centralizing hardware status and supporting drill-down to specific applications, capacity forecasting, and threshold alerts.

Plugin Information

  • Name: weihaobin0818-lgtm/dsh-system-monitor
  • Type: Client
  • Maintainer: weihaobin0818-lgtm
  • License: MIT
  • Core Value: Real-time hardware monitoring in the DSH sidebar, with support for drill-down analysis, capacity forecasting, and data export.

Core Features

The plugin provides the following features:

  1. Real-Time Monitoring and Visualization: Supports CPU, GPU, memory, and disk status. Provides radial gauges, trend charts, and heatmaps, auto-refreshes every second, and supports comfortable and compact densities.
  2. Application-Level Attribution: Click a radial gauge to drill down and view application icons and detailed resource usage, expandable to individual processes.
  3. Forecasting: Predicts time to disk full and memory exhaustion based on slope.
  4. Threshold Alerts: Supports sustained detection to avoid false positives caused by transient spikes.
  5. Data Export: Supports export in CSV, JSON, and NDJSON formats.
  6. History: NDJSON rolling persistence, retained for 7 days by default, with a maximum of one year.
  7. Custom Time Range: Presets for 1/5/30 minutes, or enter any number of minutes (up to 3 hours).

Installation and Enablement

To install the plugin, use the official installation command:

dsh plugin install dsh-system-monitor

After installation, start the profile with the Web interface to enable the sidebar feature:

dsh web

Typical Usage

  1. View Overview: The sidebar displays a real-time dashboard including CPU, GPU, memory, and disk status.
  2. Drill-Down Analysis: Click any radial gauge to view resource usage for specific applications and processes.
  3. Monitoring Time: Use the preset 1-, 5-, and 30-minute time ranges for monitoring.
  4. Export Data: Supports exporting monitoring data as CSV, JSON, or NDJSON.

Applicable Scenarios and Notes

Platform Limitations

Full functionality is supported only on Windows 10 / 11.
On Linux and macOS, it can still be installed and run, but it falls back to native Node.js readings: only CPU, memory, and the root volume can be read. Features such as GPU, process-level attribution, icons, and disk throughput are unavailable, and the corresponding panels are hidden.

Permissions and Security

  • Permissions: No administrator privileges are required; it only reads data from the current user’s session.
  • Security Model: Binds to 127.0.0.1, unauthenticated, and intended only for single-user machines.
  • Dependencies: Pure Node.js implementation with zero runtime dependencies; requires Node.js 20 or higher (already satisfied by the Harness runtime).

Other Notes

  • Restart DSH when the protocol version does not match.
  • The export function supports CSV, JSON, and NDJSON formats.

Summary

This plugin addresses the need to monitor hardware load and identify application resource usage in real time within DSH through sidebar integration. After installation and starting the Web interface, you can view the real-time dashboard in the sidebar and perform drill-down analysis. Before use, ensure you are running on Windows to get full functionality, and note its single-user, localhost-bound security model.
