Introducing the DeepSeek Harness Plugin: dsh-reference-render

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts an “everything is a plugin” architectural philosophy. When building agent conversation flows, it is often necessary to reference specific resources (such as report IDs or database records). Without a unified rendering standard, these references may be nothing more than ordinary Markdown links, lacking contextual presentation and interaction entry points. The dsh-reference-render plugin aims to solve this pain point by providing a domain-neutral structured reference rendering solution.

Plugin Positioning

This is a DSH client plugin maintained by popingalex. It does not own the business truth; instead, it exists as a rendering layer, converting standard GFM (GitHub Flavored Markdown) links into inline chips with interactive functionality.

Core Capabilities

  1. Domain-neutral rendering: The plugin does not handle concrete business logic; the content is provided by other plugins through contracts.
  2. Automatic chip conversion: Ordinary GFM links are automatically rendered as inline chips.
  3. Decoration support: Supports dot, bar, and icon decorations, with up to 3 on each side.
  4. Interactive capabilities:
    • Hover preview: Hovering the mouse displays the referenced content.
    • Right sidebar navigation: Clicking a chip opens the corresponding resource in the right sidebar.

Installation and Enablement

Because the plugin has not yet been published to npm, it must be built and installed directly from source. Make sure your environment meets the dependency requirements (DSH 0.2.1-alpha.1, Node.js ^22.19.0 or >=24.0.0).

git clone https://github.com/popingalex/dsh-reference-render.git
cd dsh-reference-render
pnpm install
pnpm build
npm pack
dsh plugin --profile web add ./dsh-reference-render-0.1.0.tgz

Typical Usage

1. Basic Reference

In the conversational text, directly use the [label](dsh-ref:<kind>:<id>) syntax, and the plugin will render it as a chip.

Build completed. See [RP-42](dsh-ref:report:RP-42) for details.

2. Content Plugin Integration

Content plugins can declare references and provide decorations by registering slots and listening to events. For example, a content plugin can register reference.hover.content and provide an icon decoration.

ctx.effect(() => ctx.slots.register({
  name: 'reference.hover.content',
  select: (owner) => isOurs(owner.descriptor) ? {} : null
}, MyHoverCard))

ctx.on('reference/open', ({ descriptor }) =>
  isOurs(descriptor) ? (ctx.sidebarRight.openResource(descriptor.uri), { handled: true }) : undefined)

Use Cases and Notes

  • Use cases: Suitable for scenarios that require embedding various resource references within a conversation flow, especially DSH plugin development that requires a unified interaction experience (such as hover preview and sidebar navigation).
  • Compatibility: Currently available only for testing with DSH 0.2.1-alpha.1.
  • Runtime behavior:
    • Undeclared references remain plain chips with no actions (hover and click are both no-ops).
    • Removing this plugin does not affect the host (DSH main process).
  • Ecosystem note: This plugin is listed in the community directory (SkillHub). It has no official affiliation with DeepSeek or High-Flyer.

Summary

dsh-reference-render provides a standardized reference rendering layer for the DSH plugin ecosystem. By decoupling rendering logic from business logic, it allows content plugins to focus on providing data, while this plugin uniformly handles reference presentation and interaction.
