dsh-file-download: DeepSeek Harness File and Folder Download Plugin

Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture, and its ecosystem consists of community plugins. When developing with or using Harness to manage files, exporting files from the Files tree or document preview, or packaging folders locally, is usually a manual process or requires additional scripts. The dsh-file-download plugin introduced below integrates download functionality directly into the Harness interface, addressing this pain point.

What It Is

dsh-file-download is an independently maintained community plugin developed by lorsabyan. It adds a download button to the Harness Files tree and document preview. With this plugin, you can directly save any regular file, or package an entire folder (including nested files and empty folders) as a ZIP for download. The plugin does not depend on any server endpoints, telemetry, or external file uploads.

Core Features

  • File download: In the Files tree or document preview, click the download button to save the file.
  • Folder packaging: Select a folder and click download; the browser generates folder-name.zip. The ZIP contains the original files, extensions, and all nested structures (including empty folders).
  • Preview download: Select Download in the document preview toolbar to download the original file (for example, download the original .docx file while previewing DOCX).
  • Transfer control: You can click the button at any time during a download to cancel the transfer.
  • Permission inheritance: The plugin acts only as a client-side Harness extension, inheriting the existing permissions of the Harness installation and introducing no additional security risk.

Installation and Enablement

This plugin requires an existing Harness web instance, dsh CLI, and pnpm.

  1. Download dsh-file-download-0.2.0.tgz from v0.2.0.
  2. Run the installation command in the directory where the file is located (change web according to your actual profile):
dsh plugin --profile web add ./dsh-file-download-0.2.0.tgz
  1. Restart the Harness web server and refresh the browser.

After installation is complete, you can verify registration with the following command:

dsh --profile web --dump-config

Check whether the output contains the dsh-file-download configuration entry.

Typical Usage

  • Single file: Find the file in the Files tree and click the download icon next to it. If you click the file name, the native preview opens.
  • Entire folder: Click the download icon next to the folder; the browser saves folder-name.zip. Folder expand/collapse remains available.
  • Preview download: Select Download in the document preview toolbar. For example, download the original DOCX file from the DOCX preview page.
  • Cancel download: Click the button during the transfer. The prompt displays progress, and status messages report completion or errors.

Compatibility and Limitations

  • File size: Files smaller than 32 MiB use the browser’s normal download behavior. Files larger than 32 MiB are streamed after the target file is selected in the Chrome or Edge save dialog.
  • Browser support: Chrome and Edge support streaming large files and instant save dialogs for folders in secure contexts. Other browsers generally support ZIP downloads smaller than 32 MiB.
  • ZIP limitations: The generated ZIP archive is subject to the following limits:
    • Size: less than 4 GiB
    • Entry count: less than 10,000
    • Nesting depth: less than 64 levels
    • Metadata budget: less than 8 MiB
  • Error handling: If the source file list is incomplete, a file is unreadable, is a symbolic link, or is an unsupported entry, the plugin reports an error instead of generating an incomplete ZIP.
  • License: MIT License.
