GitMate: A Git Panel and 15 Agent Tools in the DeepSeek Harness Sidebar

Preface

The core philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” During code review or commit history management, frequently switching terminal windows or manually running Git commands can interrupt the workflow. The GitMate plugin integrates the Git panel and 15 agent tools into the DSH sidebar, providing a visual operation interface that allows Git operations to be completed directly by clicking or chatting.

Plugin Introduction

GitMate is a DSH client plugin maintained by alanhaskey. It provides a Git panel in the DSH sidebar and offers the same operation capabilities as the 15 agent tools.

Core Features

  • Git panel and diff comparison: The panel shows four file states (conflicts, staged, changes, untracked). The diff viewer supports line numbers, +/- markers, and context expansion (3 to 24 lines).
  • Commit and review: It supports generating commit messages, reviewing staged changes, splitting staged changes into independent commits, explaining changes, and generating .gitignore.
  • Branches and history: It includes a branch selector, commit graph (showing all branches and remote branches), remote operations (push, pull, sync), and Stash operations.

Installation and Enabling

Install the plugin via the command line:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:alanhaskey/dsh-gitmate

After installation, restart DSH and refresh the page. Open GitMate from the + menu in the sidebar.

Typical Usage

  • Initialize repository: Click the initialize button to automatically write the local commit identity.
  • View commits: Expand a commit node to see full information. Click a node to perform operations such as rewind, revert, or rebase. Click a file to view the diff.
  • Split commits: Split staged changes into independent commits. The system generates a plan for you to edit, and you can commit them one by one or all at once.
  • Expand context: While viewing a diff, expand the context from 3 lines to 24 lines for a clearer view of file changes.

Notes

  • Runtime: Only the DeepSeek Harness runtime is supported (macOS, Linux, Windows).
  • Configuration storage: Settings are saved in the plugin’s own cordis.patch.yml line.
  • Destructive operations: Every destructive operation (such as rebase and rewind) asks for confirmation before execution and indicates what content will be lost.
  • Git diagnostics: Git diagnostic messages are fixed to English (LC_ALL=C).
  • Plugin ID: The plugin ID is different from the package name (Loader row dsh-git, the tab key).
  • Custom instructions: Supports the custom instruction messageTemplate.

Short Conclusion

GitMate turns the DSH sidebar into a complete Git console, combining visual operations with AI assistance. See the community directory or the GitHub repository for related resources.
