@hmkk/dsh-appearance: A Lightweight DeepSeek Harness Font and Theme Plugin

Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) provides a modular development environment, and the default configuration usually meets basic needs. For scenarios requiring more fine-grained control over visual rendering, manually modifying styles often involves cumbersome build steps or introduces many dependencies.

@hmkk/dsh-appearance aims to solve this problem. It is a lightweight plugin designed specifically for DSH. It does not bundle font files and overrides interface and code block styles by modifying the official tokens (variables). It has no complex build process, requiring only two JS files and a configuration override layer, so adjustments to font stacks and color schemes take effect directly.

Core Features

This plugin mainly addresses two core issues: font rendering and interface color schemes.

Zero Dependencies and Lightweight

  • No file dependencies: It does not bundle font files and uses only system font stacks.
  • Zero build steps: The repository root is the plugin package, so no compilation is required.
  • Zero runtime dependencies: It has no additional JS library dependencies.

Font and Color Scheme

  • Separate font selection: Chinese fonts and Western fonts (for the interface and body text) can be selected separately, and the code font can be selected independently. The candidate list displays only fonts installed locally.
  • Official palette presets: It includes five official palettes—One Dark Pro / Dracula / Nord / GitHub / Catppuccin—with both dark and light modes.
  • Deep overrides: It overrides 42 tokens, including background surface, text, border, status, cards, and code blocks, ensuring consistent styling across the sidebar, menus, cards, and code blocks.
  • Quality validation: It includes a built-in contrast checking mechanism to ensure that color schemes meet readability standards.

Installation and Enablement

Before installing, ensure that the DSH version is 0.2.0-rc.2 or newer.

Use the official CLI to install (recommended):

npx -y --package @deepseek-ai/dsh dsh plugin --profile desktop add @hmkk/dsh-appearance

After installation, find the “Appearance” section in the DSH “Settings” page to configure it.

Configuration

The settings page is mainly divided into three sections:

  1. Font settings:
    • Interface and body fonts (supports separate selection for Chinese and Western fonts).
    • Code font.
    • Body font size (range: 10–22px).
  2. Color settings:
    • Select a preset theme (One Dark Pro / Dracula / Nord / GitHub / Catppuccin).
    • Manually adjust the accent color, background color, and text color.
  3. Advanced settings:
    • Import or export configurations (format: dsh-appearance-v1:{...}).
    • Reset all settings.

Notes

  • Version requirement: DSH 0.2.0-rc.2 or newer is required.
  • Override scope: It does not override terminal fonts or ANSI colors; it does not override the global UI font size (only supports 10–22px).
  • Font source: The plugin uses only system font stacks and contains no font files, so font-missing errors will not occur.
  • First-screen transition: Because the color scheme switches between light and dark states, the color scheme is applied only after the plugin is loaded. When refreshing the page, there may be a very brief transition using the default color scheme.

Conclusion

By reusing the official theme extension points and token mechanism, @hmkk/dsh-appearance provides DSH with a lightweight, no-build, plug-and-play appearance enhancement solution. It is suitable for developers who want to quickly unify the interface style or perform deep theme customization.
