Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture. Desktop pets are a common way to enhance interactive immersion. The dsh-png-pet plugin provides a local desktop pet companion running on a Windows desktop and communicates with DSH via stdin/stdout JSON Lines. It is maintained by comfylies.
Core Features¶
Questionnaire Handling¶
The plugin supports handling restricted approvals and compatibility questionnaires in the desktop pet interface.
1. Go to DSH settings and select “Desktop Pet” as the “Location for requesting approval”.
2. Process questionnaires inside the desktop pet. It supports up to 8 questions, up to 8 options per question, single/multiple choice, and custom answers of up to 1000 characters.
3. Pagination preserves the current draft. After submission, it waits for Host confirmation.
4. Optional “Web” or “Web + Desktop Pet” modes are available.
Persistent Minimal Dialog¶
Right-click the desktop pet and enable “Persistent Dialog Box” to display a semi-transparent window.
1. The window hides the send and attachment buttons, and the input box remains visible at all times.
2. Double-click the desktop pet to focus the input box, press Enter to send, and press Esc to stop generation.
3. Pasting screenshots is supported (Ctrl+V). Removable attachment tags are displayed, and each PNG must not exceed 2 MB.
4. Long replies can be browsed with the mouse wheel. The maximum height is limited by the screen.
External Character Appearance¶
Custom character appearances are supported.
1. Right-click the desktop pet and select “Character Appearance…” to add a local GIF or PNG.
2. Adding character directories is supported.
3. After import, you can switch immediately, restore defaults, or remove the character.
4. External characters are stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\DshPngPet\Characters and are not included in the plugin package.
Physics-Based Interaction and Settings¶
- Left-drag the character to reposition it.
- Right-click to select a scale ratio or reset the size.
- Enable “Physics” in settings to throw the character. Use the slider to control boundary bouncing.
- Enable “Reduce Motion Effects” to pause physics effects.
Installation and Activation¶
Windows only.
To install version v0.3.0, restart DSH Harness after installation to load it.
Run the following command in PowerShell:
& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm 'https://github.com/comfylies/dsh-png-pet/releases/download/v0.3.0/install.ps1')))
After installation, running runtime/bin/win32-x64/pet-helper.exe can start the desktop pet directly.
Notes¶
- Privacy Boundaries: The plugin does not read API keys and does not create HTTP/WebSocket ports. Inputs and previews are only temporarily stored in memory and communicated via stdin/stdout.
- Protocol Limitations: The protocol version is v18. The status bubble only supports fixed activity labels (“Thinking…”, “Working…”, “Outputting…”).
- Resource Management: External character appearances are stored in a local directory and are not included in the plugin package.
- Screenshot Mechanism: Screenshots are only temporarily stored in memory and sent through DSH’s image attachment capability.
Conclusion¶
This plugin is suitable for DSH users who need persistent desktop interaction, questionnaire handling, or custom visual appearances.
