dsh-topic-trail: Real-Time Distillation of Long Conversations into Navigable Session Work Trails

Introduction¶

When conducting long conversations in the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web UI, the conversation flow can become lengthy and difficult to scan, making it hard to quickly locate key conclusions or current progress. The dsh-topic-trail plugin mounts a floating panel in the interface, distilling the AI conversation flow in real time into jumpable “leads,” and generating topics, progress, and stage history to make the working context clear at a glance.

Stage Annotation: Automatically annotates stages (proposal / exploration / blocked / breakthrough / completed) or infers a basic progression from the steps.

Interaction and Positioning¶

Click to Jump: Click a lead title to expand its stage history; clicking a stage or step jumps directly to the corresponding location in the conversation and highlights the message.
Navigation and Search: Supports filtering by workspace or session, or searching lead titles directly.
Drag-and-Merge: Supports dragging one lead onto another to merge them.
Quick Actions: Right-click a lead to rename, delete, or merge it; right-click a workspace to regenerate its data.

Floating Panel and Status¶

Floating Panel: Draggable and collapsible. When collapsed, it becomes a small ball with adjustable size.
Status Indicator: The small dot before each lead is colored based on the last activity time (bright green within 10 minutes, dark green within a day, gray for older activity).
Proactive Display: While collapsed, it occasionally shows an “idle chatter” bubble that merges recent leads. The interval can be adjusted in settings (default: 30 seconds).
Sticky Notes: Includes built-in notepad and drawing tools; content is stored on the server.

Other Features¶

Multiple Themes: Provides a classic theme and a DeepSeek theme.
Engineering Optimization: Zero build, snapshot caching, subagent filtering (excluded by lineage), and token saving (default minimum interval: 20 seconds).

Installation and Activation¶

Run the following command in a terminal to install:

dsh plugin --profile web add file:C:/path/to/dsh-topic-trail

Restart DSH after installation to make the plugin take effect.

Typical Usage¶

View the Flow: During a conversation, the floating panel automatically displays leads. Click a lead title to expand its stage history.
Locate Details: Click a stage or step, and the interface will jump to and highlight the corresponding conversation content.
Organize Leads: Right-click a lead to rename, delete, or merge it; dragging one lead onto another will merge them.
Quick Navigation: Use the dropdown menu in the upper-right corner to filter by workspace, or use the search box to find leads.
Close Overlays: Press Esc to close overlays layer by layer (from the right-click menu to the expanded lead).

Caveats¶

Positioning Accuracy for Older Leads: Leads generated by earlier versions may use a step timestamp method that can reduce positioning accuracy. It is recommended to regenerate the leads for that session to correct this.
Background Throttling: The proactive bubble relies on browser timers. If the browser tab remains in the background for a long time, the timers may be throttled, increasing the interval between bubbles.
Theme Licenses: Built-in themes (such as DeepSeek girl and Whale girl) are community fan-created works. They are not distributed under the MIT license; copyright belongs to their respective rights holders (from Mingyue, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). When using them, please follow the requirements of attribution, non-commercial use, and share-alike licensing.
