When developing or interacting with DeepSeek Harness, adjusting the right sidebar width to view hidden context or tools is a common operation. If you frequently switch between different types of content tabs (such as onboarding pages, file pages, and documentation pages), manually adjusting the width consumes extra effort. The dsh-sidebar-size plugin is designed to solve this issue by remembering and restoring the sidebar size, thereby reducing repetitive operations.
Core features¶
The plugin primarily provides the following capabilities:
- Memory per tab type: The plugin records the type of the currently active tab and restores the corresponding right sidebar width the next time content of the same type is opened. The saved values are independent of specific files or sessions and are shared globally.
- Inheritance mechanism: If no record exists for a specific type, the plugin searches through the inheritance chain for records from parent content pages until it finds a valid record or falls back to the DSH default size. Note that inheritance only affects display and does not create records for content pages that have not been resized by user dragging.
- Unified width mode: You can turn off the “Differentiate sizes by displayed content” toggle so that all content shares the same width record.
- Status and logs: On the settings page, users can view the plugin status, the current active tab, the sidebar size, and its source (record for this type / inherited from a parent / DSH default). Additionally, one-click export of runtime logs is supported for troubleshooting.
- Data migration: Export and import of data (confirmed after preview) are supported to facilitate migrating configurations between environments.
Installation and enabling¶
Installation must be performed through DSH’s plugin installation entry point, using the official CLI subcommand form. After successful installation and restarting the desktop client, a “Sidebar Size” group appears on the settings page.
Option 1: Use a release package (recommended)
Download the corresponding version’s .tgz file from this repository’s Releases page (for example, dsh-sidebar-size-0.1.1.tgz), and replace <package_name_or_path> in the installation command with the local path to that file.

After cloning this repository, install dependencies and build the project first, then install using the repository directory as the path. Building requires Node 24 and pnpm 11 (see package.json for version numbers).

Configuration and usage¶
After installation, find the “Sidebar Size” group on the DSH settings page to configure the plugin:
- Master switch: Controls whether the plugin is active. When turned off, the plugin no longer records, remembers, or adjusts the width; the sidebar width is restored to the DSH default, but the settings entry can be re-enabled.
- Differentiate sizes by displayed content: Enabled by default. When enabled, the right sidebar size is recorded separately for each tab type; when disabled, all content shares the same size record. Toggling this setting does not overwrite old data with new data.
- Saved widths: Select a recorded tab type from the drop-down list to view or modify the recorded value for that type.
- Reset sidebar size data: After a secondary confirmation, this clears all width data saved by the plugin and restores the current sidebar to the default size.
In addition, the settings page provides a data migration feature that supports exporting current data and importing data (preview confirmation required).
Compatibility and notes¶
- Verified compatibility: A tested combination using DSH desktop v0.2.0-rc.2 (core) and
dsh-better-sidebarv0.24.1 has passed verification. - Theoretical compatibility: It is theoretically compatible with other DSH core builds or core+plugin combinations on the same version line (v0.2.0-rc.x), as well as the DSH Web variant. The plugin does not modify host files and only reads/writes its own data.
- Unverified scenarios: Floating panels, switching content or changing toggles while dragging, focus switching between panes, and the combinations listed under theoretical compatibility have not all been individually tested, so their behavior is not guaranteed to fully meet expectations.
- Stability and maintenance: When the DeepSeek Harness core version is updated, this plugin’s features may stop working. Abnormally terminating the process (force quitting instead of normal shutdown) may cause the most recent size save to be lost.
- Dependency statement: This plugin is developed by a third party and has no affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement relationship with official DeepSeek. It is released under the MIT License.
