Preface¶

Extensions to DSH are typically implemented through plugins. If you have an increasing number of sessions in dsh’s Web profile and need to organize them by category in the sidebar, consider ht719/dsh-session-categories. It adds a user-manageable category tree to the dsh sidebar and allows each Workspace to maintain its own categories.

Below, we introduce its positioning, capabilities, installation commands, typical usage, as well as considerations regarding upgrades and permissions.

What This Is¶

dsh-session-categories is a DSH plugin maintained by ht719, positioned as:

It targets the current dsh pre-release plugin API and is intended for use with unmodified dsh installations. Once installed, the dsh sidebar can display categories, sessions, and hierarchical relationships per Workspace, allowing users to create, rename, move, and archive categories and sessions.

Core Features¶

The plugin provides the following capabilities:

• Adds a user-manageable category tree to the dsh sidebar.
• Each Workspace maintains its own categories.
• Each session belongs to at most one category.
• Sessions can be created directly within a category.
• Categories can be expanded or collapsed, preserving hierarchy.
• Sessions can be dragged and dropped into another category.

Behavior and Constraints¶

The plugin imposes a set of restrictions on mutation operations:

• Rejects stale revisions.
• Rejects cross-Workspace session IDs.
• Rejects descendant moves.
• Rejects assignment to unknown categories.

When a category is deleted, its subordinate sessions are recursively archived; persistent logs are not deleted.

Installation and Activation¶

First, ensure the dsh command is available in your shell. For a standard installation, run the following commands to install the prebuilt package and then start the dsh Web profile:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-session-categories
dsh --profile web

If you are running dsh from source, use the corresponding package launcher:

pnpm dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-session-categories
pnpm dsh --profile web

If you need to use an unpublished GitHub version, you can install the repository version directly:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:ht719/dsh-session-categories

Typical Usage¶

Below is a common category management workflow:

1. Enter the target Workspace.
2. Create a top-level category from the Workspace action menu.
3. Create sessions within that category, or drag existing sessions into it.
4. Create subcategories from the category action menu.
5. When adjustments are needed, use the category action menu to rename or delete the current category.
6. To move existing sessions, use the “Move to category” action.

After following these steps, sessions will appear in the dsh sidebar according to the hierarchy you have defined. Note that deleting a category only recursively archives its sessions and does not delete their persistent logs.

Applicable Scenarios and Considerations¶

This plugin is suitable when:

• You manage multiple Workspace sessions in the dsh Web profile.
• You want to maintain a category tree per Workspace.
• You want to organize sessions using drag-and-drop, expand/collapse, rename, and move operations.
• You use an unmodified dsh installation and are willing to upgrade the plugin in sync with dsh releases.

Things to keep in mind:

• The plugin targets the current dsh pre-release plugin API.
• dsh does not guarantee compatibility between pre-release versions.
• When upgrading, update both dsh and this plugin together.
