dsh-moyan: Displaying a Quote in the DeepSeek Harness WebUI Sidebar

Preface

The DSH plugin mechanism allows adding lightweight capabilities around the WebUI. dsh-moyan addresses a very specific need: displaying a complete quote, classical poem, or classic game line just above the “Settings” button in the bottom-left sidebar. It does not extend DSH’s core workflows, nor does it replace the existing settings entry — it only provides a maintainable quote slot with simple refresh controls.

What This Is

dsh-moyan is a DeepSeek Harness WebUI plugin, maintained by elviszhang007, licensed under MIT.

Verified information shows the package.json version is:

0.5.3

Its purpose is to display a quote at the bottom of the sidebar, just above the “Settings” button, with the attribution appended after the sentence. It is suitable for users who want a low-distraction quote display in the WebUI and prefer to edit the corpus file directly.

Core Features

The following verified capabilities are listed:

  • Displays a complete quote, classical poem, or classic game line just above the “Settings” button in the bottom-left sidebar.
  • Sentences wrap automatically, with attribution on its own line.
  • Adjustable refresh frequency: refresh every time the WebUI is opened, or refresh daily; when set to daily, the quote automatically changes at midnight.
  • Supports manual refresh to get a new quote, with a small arrow to go back through the last 5 refreshes.
  • The last 10 displayed quotes will not be randomly selected again.
  • External corpus: directly edit corpus.txt to add or remove sentences; refreshing the page applies changes immediately.
  • Styling uses Harness theme variables and automatically adapts to light/dark themes.
  • Automatically hides when the sidebar collapses into a narrow rail.

Installation and Enabling

Prerequisites

Before installation, ensure:

  • Node.js ≥ 18.
  • DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is installed, either globally or locally.
  • pnpm is required.

This plugin is an “out-of-tree plugin” (profile plugin), installed via dsh plugin. After installation, changes to the plugin set take effect upon restarting the web profile.

Installation

The verified installation command is:

(pnpm) dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-moyan

The (pnpm) part needs to be adjusted based on how DSH was installed: if DSH is installed globally, remove (pnpm); otherwise remove the parentheses (), keeping only pnpm.

For global installation:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-moyan

For non-global installation using pnpm:

pnpm dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-moyan

Restart and View

After installation, restart the web profile. Choose the command following the same rule:

Global installation:

dsh web

Using pnpm:

pnpm dsh web

After restarting, refresh the page. A quote will appear at the bottom of the sidebar, above “Settings”, with the attribution appended after the sentence.

Uninstallation and Cleanup

Uninstall by package name:

Global installation:

dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-moyan

Using pnpm:

pnpm dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-moyan

The plugin also leaves a settings key in the browser’s localStorage:

dsh-moyan:v1

To clear it, remove this key in the WebUI console.

Typical Usage

Complete installation and restart first, then follow these steps:

  1. A quote appears at the bottom of the sidebar, above “Settings”, with attribution appended after the sentence.

  2. Hover over it, and a gear icon appears at the end of the attribution line. Click it to open the settings panel.

  3. In the panel, switch the refresh frequency: every open / daily.

  4. Click “New Quote” to change the current quote; the last 10 displayed quotes will not be randomly selected again.

  5. Click the small arrow on the left to go back to a previous quote, up to the last 5 refreshes.

  6. View the full attribution of the current quote in the panel.

Corpus Editing

The corpus format is:

sentence | attribution

One entry per line. Lines starting with # and empty lines are ignored.

Directly edit corpus.txt, save it, and refresh the page to apply changes. The host re-reads the file on every request, so there is no need to restart dsh web.

Suitable Scenarios and Notes

Suitable for:

  • Users who want the DSH WebUI to remain clean, adding only a single low-distraction quote.
  • Users who are willing to maintain corpus.txt and can edit the corpus with a text editor.
  • Users who need a sidebar display that follows the Harness light/dark theme.

Notes:

  • This plugin is installed into the current DSH environment via dsh plugin. The plugin runs with the permissions of the current dsh process. Before installation, inspect the source code, confirm the license, and understand what code you will be executing.
  • Verified information shows the plugin was developed and verified on DeepSeek Harness 0.1.0-rc.6. DSH is still evolving rapidly; slot names, theme variable names, and client module contracts may change between versions.
  • After installation, restart the web profile and refresh the page to see changes.
  • The browser retains the settings key dsh-moyan:v1; uninstalling the package does not automatically clear this key from the browser.
  • The plugin has no build step and zero runtime dependencies, licensed under MIT.
  • The DSH community directory is an independent site with no official affiliation to DeepSeek / High-Flyer; this document does not describe it as an official app store.

Conclusion

dsh-moyan’s value is small but well-defined: it only provides a complete quote above the “Settings” button in the DSH WebUI sidebar, allowing sentences and attributions to be maintained via corpus.txt. If you just need a quiet sidebar quote slot, it can be installed and used directly.
