Preface¶

The way DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is extended is through plugins. To integrate the “we need to…” Chain-of-Thought guideline into agent sessions, commands, and new session presets, a unified entry point is required. dsh-weneed implements this guideline as a DSH plugin, providing three integration methods: tools, human commands, and agent presets.

What This Is¶

dsh-weneed is a DeepSeek Harness plugin maintained by Nwflower, licensed under MIT. It provides the following features based on the same “we need” guideline text:

• weneed tool: Inject or remove the “we need” guideline text in agent sessions with a single action, as well as query its status.
• /weneed command: Let humans inject, remove, query status, or install the WeNeed persistent preset with a single command.
• WeNeed agent-preset: Loads the persistent persona and standard full toolset when selecting WeNeed mode for a new session.

The guideline text itself is copyrighted by scp3500/oh-we-need, released under the MIT license.

Core Capabilities¶

The plugin’s capabilities are concentrated in three areas:

1. weneed tool
   Used by agents to operate the “we need” guideline text within a session, supporting injection, removal, and status queries.

2. /weneed command
   Used by humans to operate the current session, supporting injection, removal, status queries, and installing the persistent preset.

3. WeNeed agent-preset
   Used for persistent setup in new sessions. When selecting WeNeed mode, it loads the corresponding persona and uses the standard full toolset.

Additionally, the plugin is pure ESM, zero-build, and has no DSH imports — it only consumes the host service.

Installation and Enablement¶

The verified materials provide two formal installation methods, without confirming which one is currently recommended.

Install after publishing as a package:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-weneed

Install via local repository linking:

dsh plugin --profile web add -w link:<local-repo-path>

Replace <local-repo-path> with the actual directory path on your machine.

Example of runtime injection:

dev_inject_plugin {"dir": "D:/Build/dsh-weneed"}

This path is just an example; change it to the actual directory on your machine.

Typical Usage¶

Human commands, choose based on the intent of the current session:

/weneed
/weneed off
/weneed status
/weneed install

/weneed injects the “we need” guideline text into the current session, /weneed off removes it, /weneed status queries its status, and /weneed install installs the WeNeed persistent preset.

If an old version of the weneed preset already exists on the machine, install will skip by default. Use the following to override it:

/weneed install force

Or use the tool:

weneed_install {"force": true}

Injection Scope and Preset Behavior¶

Injection behavior follows these rules:

• Injection creates an agent-scoped segment that only affects the target session; it is automatically cleaned up by agent/disposed and does not pollute other sessions.
• The preset is installed to ~/.dsh/.agent-presets/weneed in an idempotent manner.
• If an old preset already exists, it is skipped by default; use force to override it.
• Overriding only affects new sessions; already open sessions maintain the combination they were created with.

Configuration¶

The configuration item is:

autoEnable

The default value is:

false

When this configuration item is set to true, the “we need” guideline text is automatically injected into every new session.

Runtime Environment and Notes¶

The runtime environment requirement declared in package.json is:

node >=18

The plugin runs with the permissions of the current dsh process. Review the source code and license before installation.

The verified materials do not provide star counts, categories, or directory page URLs; nor do they confirm which of the two formal installation commands above is currently recommended.
