Deleting All Lines in Vim

In the Vim editor, there are several common methods to delete all lines:

1. In Command Mode

First, press gg to jump to the beginning of the file, then enter dG to delete all content.

  • gg: Positions the cursor at the first line.
  • dG: Deletes from the current line to the end of the file.

2. Using Range Deletion

In command mode, directly enter :%d and press Enter to delete all lines.

  • % indicates the range is the entire file.
  • d is the delete command.

After performing these operations, the entire file content will be cleared. If the file has unsaved changes, Vim will prompt you to save changes when exiting.
